‘Resign or go on leave’ — Akbayan nominee to Gonzalez

MANILA, Philippines — A University of the Philippines professor and
party-list nominee is calling on Justice Secretary Raul Gonzalez to resign
or, at least, take a leave from work over his "unethical, unconstitutional
and illegal" offer of cash rewards to village chiefs in exchange for votes.

MANILA, Philippines – "I do not follow communists," retorted Raul
Gonzalez after Walden Bello, the Akbayan candidate, proposed that the
justice secretary go on leave for offering barangay captains in Iloilo
P10,000 to deliver a 12-0 sweep of Team Unity in the senatorial race.
That is all very well except for one thing: Like Marcos, Gonzalez gets
confused about "communists" and "citizens." Maybe because both words
begin with "c."
